Paul Baumann is Director of the National Center for Learning and Civic Engagement at Education Commission of the States. Paul earned his Ph.D. in Education Policy from the University of Maryland (UMD) – College Park, where his research focused on issues of teacher quality, teacher education and teacher compensation. Prior to attending UMD, Paul taught vocal music for 10 years at a private high school in suburban Maryland and in the District of Columbia Public Schools. He was elected to two terms on the Board of Directors of the Organization of American Kodály Educators, a national professional association of music educators, and served as its Secretary from 2002-07.
